The Prayer of Jabez

03 July 2008: I recently began to clear a section of a neighbor's yard to flush out any snakes that might be lurking about.
Our neighbors readily agreed to my ingress request.

Soon desirable foliage was exposed, such as these nandinas.

As I continued to work the land with our big riding mower and a chain saw, I discovered a number of trees with faded red ribbons tied around the trunk. This was a revelation, since I had used these ribbons to designate the trees to be removed when our house was built. That was in 1987, and now 21 years later, when the brush is cleared away, I find these same trees. Their removal had not been necessary, so here they stand, actually on our property. All of this time I thought this corner of land belonged to our neighbors. The Lord has indeed enlarged my borders, in a very literal way, in the spirit of the Prayer of Jabez, without updating any surveys or county records.

This type of excavation creates a huge mess!
